Transferring a Word Doc into IncQuery

Discussion and tips on the manual data entry of inputting a survey from a Word doc into IncQuery

We encourage our users to author surveys directly inside of IncQuery for two main reasons:

  1. The IncQuery platform is purpose built for creating surveys. The tools available make it simple to add questions, textboxes, variable and even logic.
  2. When authoring in IncQuery you are assigned two Survey Directors who act as your partners for the duration of the project. They will provide advice on best practices in survey design as well as code logic where needed for the survey to flow properly.

But we understand that Word doc versions of surveys are prolific and your internal process might require them. This article is here to give you guidance on manually inputting the survey from a Word doc.

IncQuery offers a data entry service to input a survey from a Word doc. Check with your IncQuery contacts about pricing

Opening the survey doc and IncQuery in two side by side windows is helpful:

WordDoc

As you go through the Word doc you can copy and paste the question text and the choices into IncQuery

In this short video you can see examples of transferring survey questions to IncQuery. As you'll see when copying over choices Word adds in numbering and bullet points so those would need to cleaned up on the IncQuery side.

Choices tagged as [Terminate] will automatically set the appropriate logic inside the Screening Section and choices with Other or text input will have a respondent input box added. These are only be manually set.

We recommend transferring the content before focusing on logic. You are creating the rough draft. Copying the question text and choices over then go back and work on setting and logic in IncQuery

Lastly, an important note. Once the Word doc has been transferred to IncQuery all survey development going forward should be on the platform. Feel free to add your colleagues to the survey and work collaboratively. IncQuery can not accept survey changes via Word doc, so it's important to make sure your team is not continuing to iterate on the Word doc.
